A 25-year cancer survivorship authority joins the team
Dr. Stout has spent more than 25 years helping oncology teams identify treatment-related complications early and intervene before they become disabling. Her record is paired with experience putting new care models into practice inside health systems.
Career credentials
Her background, as outlined by the company, includes:
- 25+ years in cancer rehabilitation and survivorship
- Most recent role as Senior Director of Survivorship and Wellness at the American Cancer Society, where she led a national portfolio of programs and initiatives addressing supportive care needs across the cancer continuum
- Earlier clinical, research and leadership roles at the West Virginia University Cancer Institute and the NIH Clinical Center
- Strategic initiatives involving the National Institutes of Health and the World Health Organization
- More than 100 peer-reviewed and invited articles on survivorship care delivery
Credentials of this kind may carry weight with oncology decision-makers, who influence purchasing of technology such as SOZO.
Evidence base for the Prospective Surveillance Model
Dr. Stout’s pioneering research helped establish the evidence base for the Prospective Surveillance Model (PSM). In simple terms, the approach pairs pretreatment baseline assessments with risk-stratified interval monitoring, then refers patients to supportive care when changes appear.
Risk-stratified monitoring means patients are checked at intervals matched to their level of risk. The aim is for care teams to address the physical and functional effects of cancer and its treatment throughout the care continuum.
She has designed and implemented surveillance pathways in health systems, resulting in shortened time to intervention for cancer treatment-related conditions and improved clinical operations and service-line performance. Because her work centres on surveillance, her expertise connects directly to the way SOZO is intended to be used.
Why SOZO is positioned for surveillance programs
The SOZO Digital Health Platform is already established in lymphedema assessment. The company points to two developments that add to that foundation:
- The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) Optimal Resources for Breast Care 2027 standards name bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) as a method that meets Standard 5.8, its new lymphedema assessment requirement.
- In August 2026, ImpediMed received FDA 510(k) clearance for sarcopenia risk assessment, enabling care teams to use the same scan to monitor muscle loss.
Together, according to the company, these give health systems a foundation for surveillance programs that extend across cancer types and treatment settings.
The sarcopenia risk assessment clearance matters because sarcopenia develops in roughly one in three breast cancer patients during chemotherapy, and SOZO draws the new indication from its existing muscle-mass indices without extra hardware.
The company also notes that in March 2024, the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines In Oncology (NCCN Guidelines) for Survivorship continue to reference bioimpedance spectroscopy as the recommended objective tool to screen at-risk cancer patients for early signs of lymphoedema.
