100th patient enrolled in Epiminder’s US DETECT study ahead of schedule
Epiminder Limited (ASX: EPI) has enrolled the 100th participant in DETECT, its prospective, randomised, controlled, blinded, multi-centre US study of the Minder System, ahead of the company’s November target. The announcement is dated 15 October 2026.
The milestone brings the study to nearly half of its planned enrolment of up to 210 participants. The company said enrolment reflects strong momentum across 22 actively enrolling US epilepsy centres, with DETECT designed to run across up to 25 US sites.
Enrolment pace is a key execution measure in a clinical study, and reaching the milestone early points to the activity of the site network. Key figures from the update:
- 100 participants enrolled
- 22 centres actively enrolling
- 125 patients anticipated by December 2026
- 210 patients targeted by the end of 1H CY2027

What DETECT is testing and why the evidence matters
DETECT (Diagnosing Epilepsy To EffeCT change) is evaluating whether continuous subscalp EEG monitoring with the Minder System improves clinical decision-making for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy. The study enrols patients who have already undergone prolonged EEG monitoring without a conclusive result.
Understanding continuous EEG monitoring
An electroencephalogram (EEG) measures electrical activity in the brain. According to the company, conventional monitoring captures only a short window of brain activity.
As a result, many patients cycle through repeat assessments without a confirmed diagnosis or a clear treatment pathway.
The Minder System is a minimally invasive implantable continuous EEG Monitoring (iCEM®) device. It continuously records bilateral subscalp EEG and transmits data via an external wearable and smartphone application to a secure cloud platform, enabling real-world monitoring over months or years.
Study design
DETECT is structured as follows:
- Prospective, randomised, controlled, blinded, multi-centre US study
- Designed to enrol up to 210 participants across up to 25 US sites
- Six-month primary follow-up period
- Registered on ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT07110337)
The Minder System was authorised by the FDA via the de novo pathway and is being used in DETECT as a marketed device in a post-market study. The UMPIRE first-in-human multicentre trial, published in Epilepsia (2025), demonstrated Minder’s safety and high-quality signal acquisition across extended monitoring periods.
The data generated through DETECT is expected to inform clinical practice, payer engagement and the company’s broader US commercial strategy.
Enrolment momentum and the road to 210 patients
The company expects to reach 125 participants by December 2026, at which point a majority of the study’s planned enrolment will be complete. The study remains on track to complete enrolment by the end of 1H 2027.
The 75-patient milestone, reached in early September during the US summer holiday period, showed the site network holding its recruitment pace before the 100th participant was enrolled ahead of the November target.
| Milestone | Number enrolled | Timing | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100 patients | 100 | Ahead of November target | Achieved |
| 125 patients | 125 | By December 2026 | Anticipated |
| 210 patients | 210 | By end of 1H CY2027 | On track |
Dr Rohan Hoare, CEO of Epiminder, linked the pace to clinician confidence in the technology.
Dr Rohan Hoare, CEO
“Reaching 100 patients in DETECT ahead of the November target demonstrates strong momentum for Epiminder and is a clear reflection of the confidence US epileptologists have in the Minder System…”
Tracy Cameron, Vice President, Clinical Affairs, pointed to the progression of enrolment and the experience of the sites.
Tracy Cameron, Vice President, Clinical Affairs
“…the steady progress we have seen from 50 to 75 to 100 participants speaks to the strength of our clinical site network. […] our sites have built strong experience with the Minder implant procedure and patient onboarding…”
The announcement is an enrolment update only and does not report study results.
Why the milestone matters for the investment case
DETECT is designed to generate the clinical evidence that US clinicians and health systems need to support adoption of the Minder System. Enrolment progress therefore bears directly on how quickly that evidence base can be built.
Key takeaways from the update:
- Ahead-of-schedule enrolment supports the stated timeline, with the study on track to complete enrolment by the end of 1H CY2027.
- The evidence is intended to support clinicians, health systems and payers.
- The next checkpoint is 125 patients enrolled by December 2026.
Ms Cameron said the focus is on maintaining momentum while supporting every participant through their follow-up period. The announcement does not disclose financial forecasts or timing for study results.
Epiminder was founded in 2017 by Professor Mark Cook together with the Bionics Institute, St Vincent’s Hospital, the University of Melbourne and Cochlear Limited. The company is headquartered in Melbourne, Australia, and has offices in the United States.
