Aeeris and ARRAY Technologies bring automated hail protection to Australian solar
Aeeris Ltd (ASX: AER), through its wholly-owned subsidiary Early Warning Network (EWN), has announced a collaboration with ARRAY Technologies (NASDAQ: ARRY), a global provider of solar tracking technology and fixed-tilt products. The collaboration aims to expand automated hail protection to Australian solar projects.
ARRAY now integrates EWN’s hail intelligence into its SmarTrack® Hail Alert Response platform. As an expansion of its SmarTrack software platform, ARRAY will utilise EWN as its hail intelligence provider in Australia.
For Aeeris investors, the announcement places EWN’s data inside the product of a global tracker provider serving Australian solar operators. No revenue, fees or contract value were disclosed.
Henrik Thorup, Executive Chairman of Aeeris
“Australian solar enters a new phase as EWN’s collaboration with ARRAY utilises data-driven intelligence to make real-time adjustments that enhance performance and longevity of projects nationwide… through the built-in resilience needed to be protected from hail threats.”

How EWN hail intelligence and SmarTrack work together
The system pairs EWN’s detection and forecasting with ARRAY’s tracker software, equipping Australian solar operators with an automated, weather-response defence.
From detection to automatic stow
The sequence runs as follows:
- EWN’s detection and forecasting systems identify hail risks for solar projects.
- SmarTrack analyses the alert and acts pre-emptively.
- Solar modules move to maximum tilt protective angles before hail arrives.
- The process is fully automated, with no need for human decision-making.
What sits behind EWN’s hail monitoring
EWN’s hail monitoring combines three elements:
- Australia-wide radar coverage
- Meteorologist verification
- Proprietary detection algorithms
ARRAY trackers use an AC grid-powered motor and wired communications. The company compares this with systems relying on battery power and wireless communications, which can be disrupted by extreme weather.
Francesca Lucia Falcone, Business Development Director, APAC at ARRAY
“This integration greatly improves the bankability of these projects and ARRAY is proud to work with trusted collaborators such as EWN to help our customers deliver consistent, reliable energy throughout Australia.”
Why hail risk is rising for Australian solar
Hail can damage the glass surface of solar panels. Tilting modules to a protective angle changes how they face the storm, which reduces their exposure when hail arrives.
Australia’s solar sector has grown quickly, and the source links that growth to a rising hail exposure.
| Fact | Detail | Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Deployed capacity growth | Under 350MW in 2017 to more than 13GW by the end of 2025 | A much larger footprint of assets exposed to weather |
| Regional location | Much of the build-out sits in regions prone to severe convective storms | Greater exposure to hail-prone conditions |
| Insurance view | Insurance underwriters have flagged hail as an escalating risk | Hail is treated as a growing risk across the expanding footprint |

What the collaboration means for Aeeris investors
Aeeris states that its differentiated reliability architecture is further strengthened with EWN’s expansive network coverage. EWN’s capabilities are also positioned to help ARRAY offer operators a clear way of showing insurers and financiers how they actively manage risk and support long-term asset longevity.
Aeeris describes itself as a force in weather impact intelligence, combining AI, advanced technology and expert human insight.
Key takeaways:
- ARRAY now integrates EWN’s hail intelligence into SmarTrack® and will utilise EWN as its hail intelligence provider in Australia.
- The process of moving modules to maximum tilt protective angles before hail arrives is fully automated.
- Australian solar capacity grew from under 350MW in 2017 to more than 13GW by the end of 2025, with hail flagged as an escalating risk.
