INOVIQ’s CAR-exosomes kill up to 90% of ovarian cancer cells in new lab study
INOVIQ Limited (ASX:IIQ) reported positive in vitro proof-of-concept data on 25 June 2026, demonstrating that its CAR-exosome platform killed up to 90% of ovarian cancer cells in laboratory testing.
The study showed CA125-targeting CAR-exosomes killed more than 90% of OVCAR-3 and Caov-3 cells within 48 hours, while EGFR-targeting CAR-exosomes eliminated over 80% in the same models. In the aggressive, treatment-resistant SK-OV-3 line, both approaches achieved approximately 50% tumour cell killing.
The result extends INOVIQ’s “off-the-shelf, cell-free therapeutic” platform across a third hard-to-treat tumour type, following earlier proof-of-concept data in triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Inside the ovarian cancer results
The study evaluated INOVIQ’s CAR-exosomes, derived from engineered immune cells, across three industry-standard ovarian cancer cell lines. OVCAR-3 and Caov-3 are widely used lines derived from high-grade serous ovarian adenocarcinoma, while SK-OV-3 is recognised for aggressive behaviour and multidrug resistance.
Across all three lines, the CAR-exosomes outperformed unmodified extracellular vesicles. All effects were statistically significant, with experiments performed in triplicate and significance reported at p<0.0001.

What CAR-exosomes are and why investors should care
Exosomes are nanoscale extracellular vesicles secreted by cells that play key roles in intercellular communication. CAR-exosomes are a next-generation cell-free therapy derived from modified immune cells, inheriting the tumour-targeting and cytotoxic capabilities of their parent cells.
The investment angle centres on the platform’s design. Unlike living cell therapies, CAR-exosomes are described as an “off-the-shelf, cell-free therapeutic” approach that may offer advantages in manufacturing, safety and tumour penetration, particularly in solid tumours where current cell therapies face significant challenges.
The addressable markets are large and underserved. According to INOVIQ, more than 320,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer worldwide each year, while TNBC represents 10–20% of the over 2.3 million breast cancer cases globally. Both indications are characterised by aggressive disease, high recurrence and limited treatment options.

An integrated approach to ovarian cancer
The therapeutic data connects to INOVIQ’s broader strategy in ovarian cancer. The company is pairing its CAR-exosome treatment programme with its EXO-OC blood test for ovarian cancer detection, framing the work as an integrated detection-plus-treatment thesis rather than a standalone therapeutic.
