Arovella receives $4.03 million R&D tax rebate
Arovella Therapeutics (ASX: ALA) has received an FY2026 R&D Tax Incentive refund of $4.03 million, according to an ASX release dated 22 October 2026. The Arovella R&D tax rebate comes from the Australian Government’s R&D Tax Incentive.
The company stated the funds “further strengthen Arovella’s cash position” as it progresses development of its lead asset and the dosing of its first patient. The announcement does not disclose a cash balance, runway or burn rate.
Dr Nicole van der Weerden, Acting CEO
“The $4.03 million R&D tax refund further strengthens execution of our clinical and development programs. Arovella is well placed to advance the Phase 1 trial through safety and efficacy, while progressing ALA-105 towards the clinic.”

How the R&D Tax Incentive works
The Australian Government’s Research and Development Tax Incentive is a program to encourage businesses to undertake research and development (R&D) activities. It provides eligible companies with cash refunds for 43.5-48.5% of eligible expenditure on research and development.
For a clinical-stage biotech, a refund of this kind recovers part of its R&D spend. It does not involve issuing shares. The total eligible spend behind the $4.03 million figure was not disclosed.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| FY2026 refund received | $4.03 million |
| Refund rate on eligible R&D expenditure | 43.5-48.5% |
| Stated purpose | Strengthens cash position for lead asset development and first patient dosing |
What the funds support
Dr van der Weerden pointed to two priorities: advancing the Phase 1 trial “through safety and efficacy” and progressing ALA-105 “towards the clinic”. The company also referenced the dosing of its first patient. No timelines, trial sizes or dosing dates were provided.
The lead asset, ALA-101, consists of CAR19-iNKT cells modified to target CD19. It is being developed as an allogeneic cell therapy, meaning it can be given from a healthy donor to a patient, and its Investigational New Drug application (IND) has been accepted by the US FDA.
The IND application for ALA-101 was accepted by the US FDA, which cleared the regulatory pathway for Phase 1 trials of the allogeneic CAR-iNKT therapy in CD19-positive blood cancers across US and Australian sites.
The company’s platform snapshot, as described in the release:
- iNKT cell therapy platform licensed from Imperial College London
- Targets: blood cancers, solid tumours and autoimmune disease
- Solid tumour expansion through CLDN18.2-targeting technology licensed from Sparx Group
- IL-12-TM technology to be incorporated into solid tumour programs
For readers wanting to understand the solid tumour opportunity, our full explainer on Arovella’s CLDN18.2 preclinical data covers the pancreatic and gastric kill rates and how IL-12-TM armouring sustained tumour destruction across four serial challenge rounds.
The rebate supports clinical execution as the company moves toward dosing its first patient.
Arovella Therapeutics Ltd (ASX: ALA) is focused on developing its invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cell therapy platform.
