WiseTech Global Ltd Names Murphy Independent Chair as Founder Keeps Innovation Role
WiseTech Global appoints Raelene Murphy as Independent Chair as founder steps into innovation focus
WiseTech Global (ASX: WTC) has appointed Raelene Murphy as the Company’s Independent Chair, effective immediately on 7 July 2026.
Founder Richard White remains on the Board as an executive director and continues in his key role as Chief Innovation Officer. This is a governance realignment rather than a departure, with White retaining an active leadership presence at the logistics software developer.
Murphy’s progression to the top governance role has been staged. She joined the Board on 1 January 2026, was appointed Lead Independent Director effective 1 May 2026, and now steps into the Independent Chair position. For investors, the appointment signals strengthened board independence and a cleaner delineation of leadership responsibilities.

What the leadership change means
White framed the transition around focus. In his own words, recent personal media attention is creating “an unnecessary distraction from the strength of WiseTech’s business.” He stated the senior management team, CEO Zubin Appoo and himself should be “singularly focused on the execution of the Company’s growth strategy.”
White also addressed the media commentary directly. He said he “strenuously and unequivocally” denies the recent allegations reported in the media, and flagged concern that personal attacks unconnected to Company performance nevertheless have the potential to “encourage short selling activity.” These remarks are reported as his stated position.
Incoming Independent Chair Raelene Murphy
“My personal experience working with Richard is totally at odds with media reports. I have found him to be an incredibly hardworking, focused and committed founder who has built a leading global technology business with enormous potential to continue to grow stronger and thrive.”
The Board is retaining White’s strategic value while addressing governance optics through an independent Chair. Murphy noted that since her appointment as Lead Independent Director she had proactively engaged with shareholders and shared their feedback with White and the Board.
The Company noted that a Board Review into allegations reported in media relating to White was commenced in late 2024 and completed in 2025. The Review included the appointment of Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer and Seyfarth Shaw LLP to support and advise the Board.
The Board Review findings were disclosed to the market in ASX announcements dated 22 November 2024, 19 March 2025 and 18 December 2025, and those findings were considered by the Board at that time.
Board renewal and succession planning gathers pace
The appointment sits within a broader programme of board strengthening. Since March 2025, WiseTech has appointed four independent non-executive directors:
-
Chris Charlton
-
Sandra Hook
-
Rob Castaneda
-
Raelene Murphy
The Board continues to search for an additional independent non-executive director. That appointment will bring the total number of independent directors on the Board to five.
On the executive side, Zubin Appoo was appointed Chief Executive Officer in July 2025 as an important part of the Company’s succession planning. The Board noted Appoo has demonstrated strong leadership since taking on the role and is “comfortable with the progress of its executive succession plan.”

WiseTech’s business strength underpins the transition
The leadership realignment occurs from a position of operational scale. According to Company disclosures, WiseTech’s business spans:
-
More than 22,000 logistics companies across 193 countries
-
46 of the top 50 global third-party logistics providers (3PLs) and 23 of the 25 largest global freight forwarders as customers
-
A network expanded to over 500,000 connected enterprises following the e2open acquisition
The e2open acquisition expanded WiseTech’s connected enterprise network to over 500,000 businesses and contributed to the 76% revenue growth reported in 1H26, reinforcing the operational scale from which this governance transition is being made.
- Over 6,300 product enhancements added to the CargoWise platform across five years (2H21 to 1H26)
Retaining White in a dedicated innovation role is positioned to preserve product momentum, while the Board’s independent leadership addresses governance considerations. The realignment is being made from operational strength rather than distress.
Looking ahead, the Board continues its search for the fifth independent non-executive director alongside its long-term executive succession work. On matters reported in the media, the Company stated that the Board and its advisers will “continue to monitor and consider any developments.”
