Queensland extends Acusensus road safety contract in A$4.3M deal
The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has exercised the first of two twelve-month extension options for Acusensus mobile phone and seatbelt detection enforcement services.
The extension covers the initial batch of fixed sites and trailer units first deployed in Queensland during 2021, with service terms now aligned to an end date of 30 November 2027. The incremental contract value is expected to total approximately A$4.3 million (excluding GST), reinforcing incremental contract value from a long-standing government customer.

Contract extension terms and what it means for revenue
Under the Extension Agreement with TMR, Acusensus has secured a continuation of enforcement services already operating across Queensland. The extension applies to the first tranche of technology deployed in 2021, locking in contract revenue and demonstrating the ongoing stickiness of the programme with a foundational government client.
Importantly, TMR has exercised only the first of two available twelve-month options. The second option has not yet been exercised, meaning the full potential value of both extensions should not be treated as secured.
| Extension Detail | Figure/Date |
|---|---|
| Incremental contract value | ~A$4.3M (ex GST) |
| Extension type | First of two 12-month options |
| Units covered | Initial batch of fixed sites + trailer units (deployed 2021) |
| New service end date | 30 November 2027 |
The value of this arrangement lies in its recurring nature.
A partnership built over five years
The relationship between Acusensus and TMR has developed across several stages since the initial deployment, with the programme expanded twice to broaden its enforcement footprint across Queensland.
-
Initial deployment in Queensland — 2021
-
First expansion — announced 15 August 2023
-
Second expansion — announced 11 December 2024, close to doubling the number of mobile phone and seatbelt trailer units
The rollout of the second expansion is progressing well, with the final tranche of units scheduled for delivery in Q1 FY27. Each unit carries a five-year term commencing from its first deployment date, reinforcing long-duration revenue visibility across the deployed fleet.
Alexander Jannink, Founder and Managing Director, Acusensus
“I am very proud of the long-standing partnership we have with TMR, which has been proven to have saved lives. TMR was the first jurisdiction in the world to use automated seatbelt compliance enforcement, and the data now shows a significant reduction in unrestrained fatalities on Queensland roads. In addition to the injuries and casualties avoided from deterring phone use and speeding, we estimate that 15 fatalities are avoided each year as a result of TMR’s seatbelt compliance initiatives. Extending these services reflects the ongoing value of the program and our shared commitment to reducing road trauma across Queensland.”
How Acusensus road safety technology works
The enforcement solutions are designed to detect illegal mobile phone use and seatbelt non-compliance, providing prosecutable digital evidence that supports enforcement and helps change driver behaviour. In practical terms, the technology captures verifiable records of offences that can be used in conjunction with law enforcement.
Built on artificial intelligence and sensing expertise, the broader Acusensus platform extends beyond phone and seatbelt detection to cover speeding, railway crossing compliance and the monitoring of vehicles of interest. The company also offers Forsite by Acusensus, a road worker safety system that integrates roadside sensors, connected wearables and real-time analytics to warn crews of approaching vehicle risks.
The platform’s capability extends beyond trailer-based mobile units: fixed-site AI enforcement cameras deployed under a separate $11.2 million WA Road Safety Commission contract can detect six distinct offence categories from a single installation, illustrating the technology’s versatility across deployment formats.
Investment significance and outlook
For investors, the extension underscores the recurring revenue characteristics of Acusensus’s government contracts. Renewal from a foundational customer validates the ongoing value of the programme, while the five-year term attached to each deployed unit provides multi-year revenue visibility.
The company is headquartered in Melbourne and maintains offices across Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States, providing a footprint that supports broader scalability. This particular announcement, however, remains specific to Queensland.
Acusensus is tracking against FY26 revenue guidance of $83-87 million, reaffirmed in May 2026, with the Queensland extension contributing to the recurring contract base that underpins that forecast alongside expanding international programmes in the US, UK and New Zealand.
The near-term operational milestone to watch is the delivery of the final tranche of second-expansion units, scheduled for Q1 FY27. With one of two extension options exercised, the second option remains available but is not yet confirmed.
