Storage King completes internalisation as Abacus Storage King rebrands to SKG

Abacus Storage King (“ASK”) has completed its Internalisation, effective 1 July 2026, marking the self-storage group’s transition to a fully independent, internally managed entity. The completion follows the company’s prior announcement dated 18 May 2026.

The move sees ASK take direct control of its own management function rather than operating under an external manager. As part of the transition, the group will rebrand to Storage King Group and change its ASX ticker from ASK to SKG, both effective 6 July 2026.

Internalisation represents a structural milestone for the company. As part of the transition, Abacus Group’s nominee director on the ASK Board, Steven Sewell, has now resigned from the ASK Board.

Leadership transition takes effect

Alongside the completion of the Internalisation, ASK confirmed a series of board and executive changes that took effect today. The transition reflects the company’s separation from its former external manager.

  • Nikki Lawson appointed Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, effective 1 July 2026 (key terms of her employment contract were announced on 18 May 2026)

  • Steven Sewell, Abacus Group’s nominee director on the ASK Board, resigned from the Board

  • Lucy Spenceley resigned as company secretary

  • Belinda Cleminson appointed company secretary and the primary person responsible for communications with ASX on Listing Rule matters, in accordance with ASX Listing Rules 3.16.1 and 12.6

The arrival of independent leadership signals a fresh strategic chapter for the company as it operates free of its former external management structure.

What internalisation means for investors

Internalisation refers to the shift from an externally managed structure to internal management. Following internalisation, the staff and decision-making sit within the listed entity itself.

Those early internalisation discussions, which began in February 2026, saw ASK appoint an Independent Board Committee alongside tier-one advisers Macquarie Capital and King & Wood Mallesons to evaluate the proposal and protect securityholder interests.

The announcement does not disclose any financial impacts associated with the Internalisation. No fee savings, earnings impact, or cost figures have been quantified by the company.

The binding internalisation agreements, announced on 18 May 2026, locked in a total acquisition cost of $19 million plus approximately $5 million in net assets, funded through a $300 million upsize of ASK’s existing debt facility, and projected approximately $7 million in annual fee savings representing around 6% FFO accretion per security.
