Ventia sharpens strategy and targets $60 million in annualised cost savings

Ventia (ASX: VNT) has announced an evolution of its strategy, a simplified organisational structure and an updated FY26 outlook. The update follows Mr Mark Ralston’s commencement as Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer on 1 September 2026.

The initiatives are expected to deliver annualised cost savings of at least $60 million by December 2027. Ventia continues to expect underlying growth in NPATA of 7-10% in FY26, excluding one-off restructuring costs.

The update follows a review of Ventia’s market outlook, strategy and operating model over the past ten weeks. The review was informed by its people, customers, investors, partners and other key stakeholders.

Mark Ralston, Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer

“Our strategy is evolving, not by changing the markets we serve, but by sharpening where we focus our capabilities and investment.”

The framing is one of the same markets with a tighter focus, backed by a cost target and an earnings growth range that Ventia continues to expect.

Three strategic priorities for sustainable earnings growth

Ventia will focus on the following priorities to support sustainable earnings growth:

  1. Strengthen capabilities to support sovereign resilience across Defence, Government and critical infrastructure
  2. Invest in people, partnerships and technology to deliver differentiated, customer-led solutions
  3. Streamline and standardise its workforce, systems and processes, leveraging its scale to improve efficiency, execution and customer experience

Mr Ralston said the company will build on its strong position in existing markets. The emphasis is on strengthening resilience, broadening capabilities and driving efficiency across critical infrastructure and essential services that customers and communities in Australia and New Zealand depend on.

New sector structure effective 1 December 2026

To strengthen customer focus, simplify the business and better leverage the scale of the Group, Ventia will reduce the number of operating sectors. It will also streamline its corporate functions and shared services, with the new structure effective 1 December 2026.

Three consolidated sectors

Sectors will be consolidated as:

  • Defence and National Resilience, reflecting Ventia’s focus and the growth outlook for this market
  • Energy and Digital Infrastructure, bringing together markets with increasingly connected infrastructure needs and similar delivery capabilities
  • Water, Transport and Social Infrastructure, combining predominantly government and government-related customers

Recent wins such as the $160 million Victorian ITS contracts, covering traffic signals and street lighting from December, sit within the government-focused customer base that the third sector will bring together.

Savings and costs

The initiatives announced are expected to deliver annualised savings, against which Ventia expects one-off costs, including a restructuring provision in the FY26 results.

Item Figure Timing
Annualised cost savings (expected) At least $60 million By December 2027
One-off implementation and discontinued project costs (expected) Approximately $30 million Restructuring provision included in the FY26 results

On those two figures, expected annualised savings are roughly twice the expected one-off costs.

Updated FY26 outlook balances softer revenue with earnings resilience

The medium-term growth outlook remains positive. However, trading conditions in Telecommunications and Energy continue to be challenging, reflecting the deferral of expected work volumes. As a result, Group revenue in the second half of FY26 is expected to be below the prior corresponding period.

The impact on earnings is being substantially mitigated through productivity improvements and cost efficiency initiatives already underway across the Group. Ventia continues to expect underlying growth in NPATA of 7-10% in FY26, excluding the one-off restructuring costs.

Ventia remains confident in its medium-term outlook.

The HY26 earnings performance showed margins widening even as revenue slipped on a known Defence contract transition, which helps explain why management is comfortable holding its growth range through a softer second half.

Mark Ralston, Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer

“Ventia has a strong platform, value proposition and business model, with more value to unlock…”
