Aurora Labs secures maiden UK sale of two AU4 turbojet engines to Tanglewood
Aurora Labs Limited (ASX: A3D) has secured its maiden commercial sale into the United Kingdom, a UK defence propulsion sale covering two AU4 micro gas turbine (“MGT”) propulsion systems. The buyer is UK-based strategic partner Tanglewood Group Ltd (“Tanglewood”), and the engines are for evaluation by an international defence customer.
The initial sale is valued at ~A$32,000 and includes engine supply and integration services. It is modest in size, but the company describes it as a commercial entry point into a potential larger-scale defence propulsion program.

Why a small order matters for the larger propulsion opportunity
Pathway to production-standard systems
The company said the evaluation is intended to support discussions on future volume requirements for production-standard propulsion systems in the 250N+ thrust class. The engines will be evaluated in connection with a potential future platform application.
Subject to successful evaluation and agreement on technical and commercial requirements, potential production-scale supply could commence in CY27. The sale also establishes a direct commercial engagement with the end customer.
Tanglewood’s role in the UK and Europe
Tanglewood is Aurora’s strategic partner for the UK and Europe, providing business development, customer engagement and technical support. Its relationships with defence customers, platform developers and industry partners give Aurora an established channel to pursue opportunities for its proprietary propulsion technology across a broader range of defence applications.
That network also provides a platform to introduce Aurora’s MGT technology to additional customers and defence programs. Tanglewood will also support Aurora in exploring UK-based manufacturing, integration and supply chain partnerships, with a view to establishing localised propulsion capability to meet the sovereign supply requirements of UK and European defence customers.
Chief Executive Officer, Mr Andrew Garth
“While the initial order is relatively modest, the opportunity extends beyond the supply of two evaluation engines…”
Mr Garth also said the company’s focus remains on “converting these engagements into meaningful, recurring commercial opportunities.”
Understanding micro gas turbine propulsion and sovereign supply
A micro gas turbine, or turbojet, is a compact jet engine. Aurora is developing advanced propulsion systems of this type for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), which are uncrewed aircraft, for the Defence sector.
“Sovereign propulsion capability” refers to the ability of a country’s defence customers to source engines through locally manufactured, secure supply chains. This is why the announcement links Tanglewood’s support for UK-based manufacturing and supply chain partnerships to the sovereign supply requirements of UK and European defence customers.
The announcement outlines a staged path from this order:
- Evaluation of the two engines by the international defence customer.
- Agreement on technical and commercial requirements.
- Potential production-scale supply.
Building momentum across international defence engagement
The UK sale builds on Aurora’s growing international commercial engagement. The announcement cites its recent first US propulsion sale, ongoing AU4 deliveries to Sovereign Propulsion Systems and strategic collaboration with European defence prime MBDA.
The Sovereign Propulsion Systems deliveries sit under a $250,000 purchase order for 20 AU4 units, with SPS integrating the engines onto its own flight platform and holding a three-year distribution right into specified partner countries.
The company said the Tanglewood relationship supports its strategy to develop a diversified international customer base.
| Engagement | Region | Status | Relevance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tanglewood Group Ltd, two AU4 engines | UK and Europe | Maiden UK sale, ~A$32,000 | Evaluation by an international defence customer |
| First US propulsion sale | US | Recent | Part of Aurora’s growing international commercial engagement |
| Sovereign Propulsion Systems | n/a | Ongoing AU4 deliveries | Part of Aurora’s growing international commercial engagement |
| MBDA | Europe | Strategic collaboration | European defence prime |
Mr Garth said the company is “seeing increasing opportunities to position Aurora as a supplier of advanced propulsion systems into global defence programs.”
What happens next for Aurora’s UK program
The announcement points to the following steps:
- Evaluation of the two AU4 engines by the international defence customer.
- Discussions on future volume requirements for production-standard systems in the 250N+ thrust class, subject to successful evaluation and agreement on technical and commercial requirements.
- Potential production-scale supply commencing in CY27, subject to the same conditions.
- Exploration of UK-based manufacturing, integration and supply chain partnerships with Tanglewood.
Funding for that ramp-up is partly in place through a $6 million placement at $0.055 a share, backed by Walkinshaw Group Holdings, aimed at turbojet line expansion and full-rate production readiness.
