Sales catalysts driving conversion — Steam sale, physical launch and wishlists
Several current initiatives have supported the conversion of interest into paid sales. The Steam Summer Sale provided the immediate catalyst, while a new physical retail push and a large wishlist base offer further conversion levers.
-
Steam Summer Sale: a 20% discount off the base game, running 25 June to 9 July (US time)
-
Physical copies: available at major retailers on a global rolling basis from 10 July, with fully paid pre-orders now shipping to consumers
-
Player reception: near-perfect scores maintained on the PlayStation Store and XBOX Marketplace
-
Wishlists: total wishlists across all platforms remain robust at 3.17m
-
Conversion: more than 50% of Steam unit sales came from players who had wishlisted the game
The wishlist-to-purchase dynamic is significant. With over half of Steam sales originating from wishlisters, participation in sale events and the release of new content function as measurable, repeatable growth levers.
The pre-launch wishlist momentum that carried MOUSE into its April release had already exceeded PlaySide’s own internal target of 1.4 million, with activity accelerating 60% week-on-week in the days immediately before launch, establishing the conversion pipeline that is now being drawn down through sale events.
Physical editions of the game are described by PlaySide as a new “first” for the Company.
Why an owned-IP hit matters for a games publisher
PlaySide operates across two distinct commercial models. One is development-services work, where the Company builds games in collaboration with AAA partners and major technology and entertainment companies in exchange for fees. The other is self-publishing its own original intellectual property.
Two industry tools extend that value. Wishlists let publishers notify interested players when a game goes on sale, driving conversion, while downloadable content (DLC) provides ongoing monetisation and re-engagement after the initial purchase.
What comes next for MOUSE in FY27
The forward roadmap centres on new content and continued sale participation. The Fumi Games team is currently developing the first paid DLC for the game, which is set to include extensive new gameplay and features, new characters, and an expansion on the narrative.
Management views the DLC as an opportunity to re-engage existing players and attract new players to “Mouseburg.” PlaySide has also flagged planned participation in future sales events across Steam, PlayStation, XBOX and Nintendo.
Benn Skender, PlaySide Studios CEO
“We have been really pleased to see MOUSE: P.I. For Hire sell over one million copies in less than three months since its global digital launch, and the recent Steam Summer Sale provided the catalyst for the title to achieve this milestone. The Fumi Games team are currently working on the first paid downloadable content (DLC) for the game which includes extensive new gameplay and features, new characters, and an expansion on the narrative. We are excited about the opportunity this will create to reengage with existing players as well as bring new players into Mouseburg. The launch of physical editions of the game this month is a new ‘first’ for PlaySide, and we are confident these initiatives as well as our participation in future sales events across Steam, PlayStation, XBOX and Nintendo will ensure a strong sales trajectory for MOUSE in FY27.”
