Gumtree AGM FY26 presentation: EBITDA up 29% to $7.8M as costs fall
In its October 2026 AGM presentation, Gumtree Australia Markets Limited outlined a profit-led position built on lower costs, a pure play marketplace model and new transactional revenue lines. The company’s FY26 results showed EBITDA of $7.8M, up 29% from $6.0M in the prior year.
Net profit before tax rose to $3.5M, compared with a $0.1M loss a year earlier. Total revenue was $69.6M, down 6.5% from $74.4M, so profitability grew even as revenue softened.
Management highlighted a monthly unique audience of 4M users across Gumtree, CarsGuide and Autotrader (together the “Gumtree Group”). The company focuses on four verticals: Cars, Pets, Jobs and Real Estate.

FY26 financial results: profit and cash flow improve while debt falls
Cost savings drive the profit swing
Head office costs fell from $3.6M in FY25 to $1.8M in FY26, following the streamlining and right-sizing of group and head office operations. The Gumtree segment (excluding head office costs) delivered EBITDA of $9.6M, compared with $9.3M in FY25.
The presentation attributed the revenue decline mainly to softness in programmatic advertising (automated, real-time ad buying) and lower listings volumes in some Classifieds segments due to increased competition. Figures exclude Discontinued Operations.
| Metric | FY25 | FY26 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Total revenue | $74.4M | $69.6M | Down 6.5% |
| Group EBITDA | $6.0M | $7.8M | Up 29% |
| Profit before tax | -$0.1M | $3.5M | Loss to profit |
| Operating cash flow | $5.7M | $7.3M | Up 27% |
| Head office costs | $3.6M | $1.8M | Lower |
Cash flow and deleveraging
Cash generation improved alongside earnings, and the company continued to reduce its debt. Key points from the presentation:
- Net cash flow from operating activities of $7.3M, up 27% from $5.7M
- $4.9M repaid to CBA during FY26
- Outstanding CBA debt of $27.9M, down from $46.0M in FY23, $38.0M in FY24 and $32.8M in FY25
Stronger cash generation alongside falling debt points to a reduction in balance sheet risk.
The May 2026 CBA loan refinancing reduced quarterly repayment obligations and extended the facility to November 2027, which gives management a longer runway to keep paying down debt while funding sales growth.
AI transformation and the Gumtree Pay transactional roadmap
AI restructure to fund growth
The Group launched an initiative in April 2026 to embed AI into its technology operations, aiming to lift productivity, efficiency and delivery quality while reducing reliance on manual processes. Following testing, it concluded the new structure for its Technology Engineering team requires fewer engineers.
A restructuring programme began in late August 2026, with 22 roles impacted in Technology Engineering. The presentation did not quantify the savings.
Stated objective
“Cost savings to be redeployed into funding of growth initiatives in Group’s key verticals as well as Transactional offerings.”

How a transactional marketplace differs from a classifieds site
A traditional classifieds site connects buyers and sellers, who then arrange payment and delivery themselves. A transactional marketplace handles those steps on the platform, including payments, shipping and buyer protection.
Handling these steps creates new revenue lines beyond listings and advertising. The presentation described Gumtree as rebuilding its classifieds business with these features.
Gumtree Pay momentum
In FY26, the Group added “make an offer” and shipping functionality to Gumtree Pay, supported by Adyen’s technology. More than 60,000 sellers have opted in, and the company reached milestones of 2,500 transactions and more than $1M of goods securely transacted since launch.
Monthly transactions rose from 140 in May 2025 to 443 in July 2026. Monthly value transacted (GMV) rose from $31,088 to $173,001 over the same period.
The roadmap shown in the presentation:
- V1: Payments, with on-site payments powered by Adyen, plus Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayTo
- V1.5: Offers, a “make-an-offer” function and preparation for buyer driven shipping protection
- V2: Integrated Shipping, with tracking and buyer shipping protection (Q1 FY27)
- V3: Wallets and Buy Now, including a Gumtree Wallet and support for agentic commerce
- V4: High Value verticals, including a dedicated car buying flow and a pet deposit flow
Audience, trust gains and investment considerations
Brand reach
The presentation set out the following brand metrics:
- CarsGuide: 1.4M monthly audience and more than 303k YouTube subscribers
- Autotrader: more than 11,000 new dealer listings per week
- Gumtree Cars: more than 2,400 new private listings per week
A partnership with Australian Community Media (ACM) lifts the combined monthly online audience to 6.2M Australians on average.
Trust and early FY27 performance
Gumtree reduced overall fraud and scam by more than 80% over the years. Its Trustpilot score rose from 1.7 in November 2025 to 4.5 in August 2026.
In early FY27, a new pricing structure was introduced for private sellers listing cars. Since then, private car new listings are up 26% year on year, and leads per 10k sessions are up 19%.
Investment considerations
Management listed five considerations:
- Transformation to a pure play marketplace business following the divestment of loss-making Capital Market activities in FY25
- Introduction of new revenue lines, with Payments and Shipping functionalities rolled out during the year
- Group EBITDA of $7.8M (up 29%) and profit before tax of $3.5M after a significant reduction in the cost base
- Operating cash flows of $7.3M (up 27%)
- Outstanding CBA debt reduced to $27.9M from $46.0M in 2023
The appendix also noted $3.1M in carried-forward R&D tax offsets as at June 2026. Management expects similar levels for FY26, subject to final lodgment.
