Cost discipline and ANZ 2030 progress
Mr Matos said ANZ is “on track to deliver all five immediate priorities on time.” Costs were central to the result: the cost-to-income ratio improved by more than 4 percentage points to 49.26%, according to the CEO.
Five immediate priorities on track
- Suncorp Bank integration: on track for a safe and secure migration of customers by June 2027, with 60% of activities complete at end-September 2026 and 85% expected by end-March 2027.
- Non-financial risk: on track to deliver the Root Cause Remediation Plan through the PACT Program, with the second and third Promontory reports released.
- Leadership and culture: new leadership team embedded and new values launched: Put customers first, Deliver with excellence, Own the outcome, Work as one.
- Single customer front-end: on track for delivery to all Retail and SME customers by September 2027, with 45% of activities complete at end-September 2026 and 80% expected by end-March 2027.
- Simplification: $902m in gross cost savings realised in FY26, exceeding the $875m foreshadowed at the first half result. The program announced in September 2025 to reduce roles by ~3,500 is now complete.
Balance sheet, credit quality and dividend
Capital and funding
The CET1 ratio of 11.99% was down 4bps from September 2025. ANZ said this absorbed the capital impact of an increase in term rates and the acquisition of ANZ Worldline.
The ANZ Worldline deal completed on 31 July 2026 at an enterprise value of $89m on a 51% basis, giving ANZ full ownership of its merchant payments business with a small capital cost.
- Customer deposits: $815b, up 9% (12% on a constant currency basis).
- Net loans and advances: $861b, up 4% (6% on a constant currency basis).
- Liquidity: average liquidity coverage ratio of 132% and net stable funding ratio of 116%.
- Wholesale funding: $40b of term wholesale debt issued in FY26, including $25b in 2H26.
Credit quality
The total provision charge was $582m. The Individual Provision charge was $360m, a 4bps annualised loss rate, unchanged from FY25. The Collective Provision charge was $222m.
The Collective Provision balance rose $151m to $4.53b, with ANZ holding $2.1b above its base economic scenario. Non-performing exposures were 0.57% of total credit exposure, unchanged from FY25.
Mr Matos said retail customers in Australia are largely resilient, with the majority ahead of scheduled repayments. However, he noted that for some customers, “financial pressure did become more evident in the second half.”
Dividend
The final dividend of 83 cents per share is franked at 80%, up from 75% at the interim. The full year dividend is 166 cents per share, unchanged from FY25. For what each term means, see how to read an ASX dividend announcement.
The Dividend Reinvestment Plan for the final dividend will have no discount applied and will be neutralised through an on-market purchase of shares.
Reading cash profit versus statutory profit
Statutory profit is the figure calculated under accounting standards. Cash profit excludes non-core items included in statutory profit, and ANZ describes it as its preferred measure of the result of its core business activities.
The gap between the 31% and 10% growth figures comes from FY25 significant items. FY25 cash profit was $5,787m as reported, but $6,896m excluding those items, so the ex-significant-items basis gives a like-for-like comparison with FY26.
What 2027 holds for ANZ
Mr Matos said “2027 will be pivotal for ANZ,” with the integration of Suncorp Bank and the single customer front-end both to be delivered, alongside an uplift and investment in capabilities through growth initiatives.
Stated milestones include:
- End-March 2027: Suncorp Bank integration expected to be at 85% of activities complete.
- End-March 2027: single customer front-end expected to be at 80% of activities complete.
- June 2027: migration of Suncorp Bank customers to ANZ on track to be complete.
- September 2027: single customer front-end on track for delivery to all Retail and SME customers.
