Li-S Energy Ltd Ships First Lithium Foil Order and Gains ISO 9001 Certification

Li-S Energy ships first commercial lithium foil order and lands ISO 9001 certification

Li-S Energy Limited (ASX: LIS) has made its first commercial sale of Australian-produced lithium metal foil, shipping the order to a leading Australian battery research institution, while also achieving ISO 9001:2015 quality management certification for its Geelong production line.

Both milestones were disclosed together on 25 June 2026. The certification was originally awarded on 19 May 2026 and carries an expiry date of 18 May 2029.

The dual development matters because certification now unlocks the ability to pursue supply contracts with defence, aerospace, battery manufacturing and research and development (R&D) customers. The first order, however, is described as “moderate in scale,” and no revenue figure or order value has been disclosed.

Two milestones, one strategic outcome

The table below summarises both events and their relevance to investors.

Milestone Detail Date Investor significance
First commercial foil sale Shipped to a leading Australian battery research institution June 2026 First external validation and start of a new revenue stream
ISO 9001:2015 certification Awarded by independent certifier TQCS International 19 May 2026 Unlocks supplier qualification for defence and aerospace
Geelong foil line Australia’s first and only dedicated lithium foil production line Established October 2025 (prior announcement) Sovereign manufacturing capability

Why ISO 9001 certification matters for lithium foil

ISO 9001:2015 is the internationally recognised standard for quality management systems. It confirms that a company’s processes meet international benchmarks for consistency, quality and traceability. The certification was awarded to Li-S Energy by independent certifier TQCS International and covers the manufacture of lithium foil for batteries.

The standard functions as a gatekeeper. Defence, aerospace and battery manufacturers typically require independent quality assurance before qualifying a new supplier.

US defence market entry represents a parallel milestone in the company’s commercial expansion, with dual CASA and PHMSA airfreight approvals now allowing LIS to physically deliver prototype lithium-sulfur cells to American customers for the first time.

For investors, the certification is the unlock mechanism. It converts a production capability into addressable commercial markets, opening the door to supply opportunities across:

  • Defence

  • Aerospace

  • Battery manufacturing

  • Lithium and solid-state battery developers

  • Research institutions

A sovereign capability backed by federal funding

As described in the Company’s October 2025 announcement, Li-S Energy established Australia’s first and only dedicated lithium foil production line at its Geelong facility. The line was delivered ahead of schedule, supported by a $1.76 million matched grant under the Federal Government’s Industry Growth Program (IGP).

The line produces high-purity lithium metal foil, a sovereign manufacturing capability that did not exist domestically until now, despite Australia being the world’s leading lithium producer.

The strategic value is twofold. In-house foil production cuts reliance on overseas suppliers and supports LIS’s own lithium-sulfur cell manufacturing, lending the business a degree of vertical integration.

Strategic Value of the Geelong Lithium Foil Line

Dr Lee Finniear, Managing Director

“I want to congratulate the Li-S Energy team on achieving ISO 9001 certification for our lithium foil production line. It is a significant milestone and reflects a great deal of disciplined work by the team. The certification gives defence, aerospace and battery manufacturing customers the independent quality assurance they require before qualifying LIS as a new supplier. Shipping our first commercial order is an important step. It confirms there is genuine demand for an Australian-made alternative to imported foil and, in addition to manufacturing foil for our own LIS battery cells, it opens the pathway to develop our commercial foil sales channels going forward.”

Building a new revenue stream

The first commercial order is modest. While described as “moderate in scale,” it provides initial external validation of Australian-produced lithium foil and marks the beginning of the Company’s commercial customer engagement for the product.

Management has framed lithium foil supply as a market the Company intends to grow as a new commercial revenue stream. The dual-purpose nature of the output is central to that intent: foil produced at Geelong serves both external customers and LIS’s own cell production.

A gigawatt-scale manufacturing study, supported by a separate $7.8 million ARENA grant and led by engineering firm Hatch, is running in parallel, targeting a 1 GWh annual production facility that would give LIS the capacity to serve commercial offtake agreements beyond what the current Geelong line can support.

For investors tracking the next phase, three areas warrant attention:

  1. Growth of commercial foil sales channels

  2. Supplier qualification with defence and aerospace customers

  3. Continued support of in-house LIS battery cell manufacturing

Li-S Energy is an Australian company developing next-generation, ultra-lightweight lithium-sulfur cells that the Company states offer more than twice the energy density of conventional lithium-ion. Its technology leverages nanomaterials including boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) and Li-Nanomesh™ to enhance performance, safety and longevity for advanced applications where weight is critical.
