Biome extends its #1 probiotics into the format the market already prefers
Biome Australia Limited (ASX: BIO) is launching two new products in H1 FY27: Biome Daily Probiotic 60 and Biome Daily Kids Probiotic 60, two-month formats of its two highest-volume products. Biome Daily (30) holds the number one position in Australian pharmacy by units and value (IQVIA), and Biome Daily Kids (30) is the number one immune health and kids probiotic (IQVIA), having reached those rankings in a 30-pack format against brands whose core lines are 60s and 90s.
The commercial logic is straightforward. Independent IQVIA pharmacy scan data shows 14 of the top 20 probiotic products in Australian pharmacy by value are 60 or 90 packs. Until now, Biome has competed exclusively in 30-pack formats. The new launches bring both category leaders into the dominant format tier.

H1 FY27 product launches: what’s new and why it matters
Both new products are clinically supported daily probiotics, microencapsulated to deliver five times more live bacteria to the gut than uncoated probiotics.³ They will be supplied through Biome’s existing community pharmacy wholesalers and practitioner channel, and will be Biome’s first Australian-made products, manufactured under its onshore manufacturing agreement with Specialty Probiotics Australia (refer ASX announcement 3 June 2026).
| Product | Format | Strains / CFU | Target User | Channel |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Biome Daily Probiotic 60 | 60-capsule (2-month) | 6 strains / 9 billion live bacteria | Adults — digestive and immune health | Community pharmacy wholesalers and practitioner channel |
| Biome Daily Kids Probiotic 60 | 60-sachet, vanilla flavour (2-month) | 5 strains / 10 billion live bacteria | Children 2+ — immune function, gut health during antibiotic use | Community pharmacy wholesalers and practitioner channel |
What makes a probiotic clinically credible — and why format matters
Microencapsulation protects probiotic bacteria through the stomach acid environment, allowing significantly more live bacteria to reach the gut intact. Research by Del Piano et al. (2010) demonstrated that gastro-protected microencapsulated strains delivered comparable intestinal colonisation at one fifth the dose of the same strains uncoated, representing a 5x delivery advantage over uncoated probiotics.³
The HEAL9 and 8700:2 strain combination used in Biome Daily has been studied in three randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials across more than 1,400 adults, showing reductions in the incidence, duration, and severity of common colds (Berggren et al., 2011; Busch et al., 2013; Lazou Ahrén et al., 2021).² Biome Daily Kids Probiotic includes Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, described by the company as one of the most studied strains in children.
Consistent daily use is the critical variable for probiotic efficacy. Running out is the primary reason patients discontinue. A two-month pack directly addresses that adherence gap, extending the clinical benefit period and supporting repeat purchase behaviour — both of which underpin Biome’s premium pharmacy positioning.
The commercial case: more revenue per transaction, less supply risk
The 60-pack format delivers three interlocking commercial benefits:
- Higher transaction value per sale: each purchase covers two months’ supply rather than one, lifting revenue per customer visit for pharmacy partners.
- Demand spread across two SKUs per product line: demand currently concentrated on a single 30-pack SKU for each product will be distributed across two formats, reducing the impact of any out-of-stock event at wholesaler or retailer level.
- Structural efficiency gains: one carton, one label, and one freight movement per two months of supply. This supports gross margin improvement as manufacturing transitions onshore under the Specialty Probiotics Australia agreement (refer ASX announcement 3 June 2026).
The onshore manufacturing agreement with Specialty Probiotics Australia, which carries no capital expenditure requirement and no minimum purchase obligation, is expected to lift gross margins progressively from approximately 61% to above 65% over 18 months as the full Activated Probiotics range transitions to domestic production.
Pricing has been set to retain existing customers transitioning from the 30-pack. The company has modelled the interaction between formats across a range of scenarios; in each, growth in new sales is expected to run well ahead of any substitution from the 30-packs. No revenue guidance has been provided for the new products.
Blair Vega Norfolk, Founder and Managing Director — Biome Australia
“Our probiotics are backed by clinical trials, but a trial result only becomes a health outcome if people take the product every day for long enough to get the benefit. The most common reason they stop is running out. A two-month pack helps patients stay on the product, and gives the pharmacists and practitioners who support them a simpler recommendation.
The data shows how much room there is to grow. Biome Daily and Biome Daily Kids became the number one probiotics in Australian pharmacy in a 30 pack, against brands whose core lines are 60s and 90s. Fourteen of the top twenty products in the category are larger formats. Until now we have left that part to everyone else.
That’s why this may be the most exciting launch we’ve done. Patients stay on the product longer, practitioners get an easier recommendation, and the category has already told us it wants the format. These will also be Biome’s first Australian-made products.”
Investment thesis: dominant products, bigger format, better economics
Biome reached the number one position in Australian pharmacy with a 30-pack competing directly against brands whose core lines are 60s and 90s. The new format does not require the company to build market share from scratch; it extends two already-dominant products into the tier where 14 of the top 20 category products by value already sit.
Distribution is ready. Both products will be supplied through existing pharmacy wholesalers and the practitioner channel from H1 FY27, with no new commercial infrastructure required. The Australian-manufacturing milestone, delivered under the Specialty Probiotics Australia agreement, supports the company’s stated objective of lifting gross margin. Taken together, the launches reinforce Biome’s category leadership trajectory in the pharmacy probiotic market without requiring the commercial groundwork typically associated with a new product entry.
Beyond the existing product lines, the BMB18 clinical trial now underway across La Trobe University in Melbourne and Harokopio University of Athens is testing Biome’s first wholly proprietary strain across digestive, mood, and sleep outcomes, with a 240-participant, double-blind, placebo-controlled design and data readout expected in early 2027.
