BrainChip Signs ASICLAND as IP Partner for Akida Neuromorphic Chip Designs
BrainChip expands semiconductor partner network with ASICLAND IP license deal
BrainChip Holdings has entered a non-exclusive, worldwide IP distribution licence agreement with ASICLAND Co., Ltd., a South Korea-based semiconductor solutions provider listed on KOSDAQ (445090). ASICLAND will integrate BrainChip’s Akida neuromorphic AI IP portfolio into system-on-chip (SoC) designs for multiple end customers across edge AI, industrial, automotive, consumer, and IoT markets.
The agreement enables ASICLAND to support multiple customer engagements in parallel, with revenue derived from upfront evaluation and production licence fees per customer, ongoing volume-based royalties on net sales, plus optional services fees. BrainChip anticipates the revenue will be “material over time” but cannot quantify the financial impact at this stage.
This partnership expands BrainChip’s go-to-market reach through an established TSMC Value Chain Alliance partner without surrendering IP ownership or royalty participation.

How the ASICLAND licence structure works
The agreement establishes a three-step pathway from evaluation to commercial production:
-
Evaluation licence: ASICLAND obtains evaluation licences including multi-project wafer (MPW) fabrication runs, enabling customers to produce prototype and test chips for evaluation, validation, and demonstration purposes.
-
Prototype fabrication: Customers use MPW runs to create functional silicon for technical evaluation before committing to commercial deployment.
-
Production licence conversion: Evaluation licences convert to production licences upon BrainChip approval and payment of additional fees, enabling full commercial manufacture and sale of chips incorporating Akida IP.
ASICLAND is not permitted to sublicense BrainChip IP. The intellectual property is incorporated solely within ASICLAND-designed semiconductor products. BrainChip retains full IP ownership and may engage directly with end customers for additional services or commercial arrangements.
The licence covers edge AI, industrial, automotive, consumer, and IoT target markets globally.
Services and support BrainChip provides
BrainChip will provide ASICLAND with access to Akida IP, associated runtime software, documentation, reference designs, and example AI models optimised for Akida hardware. Optional training, integration assistance, and technical support are available under separate service agreements.
What is neuromorphic AI and why does Akida matter?
Neuromorphic computing refers to AI processors designed to mimic how the human brain processes information, analysing only essential sensor inputs at the point of acquisition rather than transferring data to centralised servers. This approach processes information with greater efficiency and lower energy consumption at the edge, on-device rather than in the cloud.
BrainChip’s Akida processor uses Temporal Event-based Neural Networks (TENNs), which build on State-Space Models (SSMs) to deliver time-aware, event-driven intelligence optimised for scalable, real-time streaming applications. The technology processes data only when sensor inputs change, reducing power consumption compared to traditional AI processors that continuously analyse all data streams.
Target industries include aerospace, autonomous vehicles, robotics, industrial IoT, consumer devices, and wearables. BrainChip positions itself as “first-to-market” with a fully digital, event-based AI processor. The ASICLAND partnership extends this technology into custom silicon programmes via ASICLAND’s customer base, accelerating deployment across multiple verticals.
ASICLAND partnership strengthens global distribution strategy
ASICLAND operates as a TSMC Value Chain Alliance partner, listed on KOSDAQ, with an R&D centre in Hsinchu, Taiwan and business operations in San Jose, US. The company specialises in high-performance ASIC design and turnkey services across AI, memory, IoT/RF, and automotive solutions.
The strategic fit centres on ASICLAND’s SoC design capabilities and existing customer relationships, which accelerate Akida adoption while BrainChip maintains IP control and long-term royalty participation. Each customer engagement is governed by a separate evaluation licence and may convert into customer-specific production licences allowing commercial manufacture and sale of products incorporating Akida IP, subject to BrainChip approval.
Sean Hehir, CEO
“Partnering with ASICLAND extends BrainChip’s reach into a broader range of custom silicon programs. ASICLAND’s SoC design capabilities and customer relationships make them a strong partner for accelerating Akida adoption across multiple end markets, while maintaining the integrity of our IP and long-term royalty model.”
Revenue model summary
| Revenue Stream | Description |
|---|---|
| Upfront fees | Evaluation and production licence fees per customer |
| Royalties | Volume-based royalties on net sales of licensed products |

What this means for BrainChip investors
The ASICLAND agreement represents a distribution channel expansion that maintains BrainChip’s IP control and recurring revenue model. The non-exclusive structure positions BrainChip in front of ASICLAND’s existing customer pipeline across multiple verticals without requiring direct sales resources from BrainChip’s commercial team.
Management expects revenue to be “material over time” but has not quantified the financial impact, acknowledging the pathway from evaluation licence to commercial production varies by customer and application. Each ASICLAND customer engagement follows a separate evaluation-to-production pathway, meaning revenue realisation depends on individual customer timelines and adoption rates.
The royalty-bearing structure means BrainChip participates in ongoing revenue as ASICLAND customers scale production volumes. This differs from a one-time IP sale, creating potential for recurring income as licensed products reach commercial manufacture and sale.
The agreement adds to BrainChip’s semiconductor partner ecosystem alongside existing relationships, demonstrating the company can replicate this licensing model with additional partners whilst maintaining IP ownership and royalty participation across multiple distribution channels.
