Dataworks secures A$536k NSW Government planning engagement
Dataworks Group Limited (ASX: DWG) has entered into a paid planning and mobilisation agreement with the NSW Government, tied to a component of the state’s gambling harm minimisation measures.
The Regulated Gaming Technology (RegTech) specialist expects the engagement to generate approximately A$536k in revenue across an 8-week period. The arrangement is delivered on a fixed price basis and structured around three defined milestones, with work expected to commence on 2 September 2026.
For a company that already operates major government self-exclusion platforms in Australia and Canada, the agreement adds a new near-term revenue stream and establishes a working relationship with a further regulatory client at the state level.

What the engagement covers
This is a planning and mobilisation engagement rather than an operational rollout. The agreement is intended to support three defined activity areas:
-
Project planning
-
Technical scoping
-
Contract development activities
Importantly, any future implementation or operational arrangements considered in connection with the engagement remain subject to separate negotiation and agreement between the parties. The Company has stated there is no certainty that any further agreement will be reached, and it does not intend to comment further on the nature or scope of any potential future arrangement unless and until one is reached.
Understanding RegTech and centralised self-exclusion
Regulated Gaming Technology (RegTech) refers to the secure, scalable systems used to support responsible wagering and combat problem gambling. A central component of this is the self-exclusion register, which allows individuals to bar themselves from wagering. These registers enforce that exclusion in real time across multiple operators, blocking bets at the point of activity.
Governments worldwide are tightening gambling harm minimisation requirements, creating demand for the mission-critical infrastructure Dataworks builds. The Company operates Australia’s BetStop – National Self-Exclusion Register (NSER) and Ontario’s BetGuard platform for iGaming Ontario in Canada. According to the Company, these represent the only two known large-scale, enterprise-grade, real-time centralised self-exclusion systems currently operating globally.
The BetGuard Ontario launch in May 2026 marked Dataworks’ entry into its second live regulated jurisdiction, with the platform connected to more than 230 wagering operators globally and processing over 37 billion real-time exclusion checks at 100% system availability.
The scale of the platform base is summarised below.
| Metric | Figure |
|---|---|
| Platforms operated | BetStop (NSER) and BetGuard |
| Wagering operator integrations | 200+ |
| Total exclusion checks processed | 41 billion+ |
| Daily exclusion checks | 50 million+ |
| Time in operation | Approximately two years |
Why this contract matters for investors
The engagement adds evidence that Dataworks is expanding its government client base within Australia, with its harm-minimisation credentials opening doors at the state level. The measured scale of the agreement, however, warrants a balanced view.
Key investment angles include:
-
New near-term revenue of approximately A$536k over 8 weeks
-
Deepened relationships with government regulators, adding NSW alongside existing Australian and Canadian mandates
The BetStop statutory review, published in early 2026, independently characterised the platform as world-leading technology and a successful policy outcome, with 53,000 Australians registered and recommendations that could expand the contract scope to keno and land-based gambling without a fresh tender process.
- Positioning at the planning stage of a potential larger programme, representing optionality rather than certainty
The confirmed near-term value is the planning fee. Any larger operational opportunity remains unconfirmed and should not be assumed or quantified.
What comes next
The engagement is expected to commence on 2 September 2026 and runs across three milestones over an 8-week period.
The Company has stated it will provide further updates in accordance with its continuous disclosure obligations as material developments occur.
